Learning skills drop-in sessions and classes at Hargrave-Andrew Library

2012 Semester 1

Drop-in Sessions

10 - 15 minute consultations with a Learning Skills Adviser, open to all students, are offered from week 2 to week 12; except during semester break. Students may attend individually or in small groups. Students are seen in order of arrival - no appointment necessary.

How to survive at university This learning skills class will provide you with tools and recommendations for surviving university. Writing scientific lab reports This learning skills class will clarify the structure of a scientific lab report. Lab reports are common in most scientific and technical disciplines, and this class will address the structure, content and conventions of writing up lab reports. Memory and critical thinking This learning skills class will provide you with tools and recommendations for effective note taking, and for organising and critically engaging with your study material to improve study efficiency and exam results. The class will address the essentials of the art of memory; memorisation vs. critical thinking; and will relate these observations to note taking strategies. Using references in assignments This learning skills class will clarify the use of referencing in assignments. Learn what referencing is; why it is important; and how to handle in-text citations and write reference list entries in Harvard and Vancouver styles.
