Book description
As a young woman in Sri Lanka, the central
character Manthri marvels at the promise of life and yearns for a future of fulfilled
dreams. However from the
time of her loveless marriage she suffers a steady descent into disillusion and
disenchantment. This is increased
by migration to Australia and her estrangement from her two Australianised children.
About the Author
Dr Chandani Lokuge is a lecturer in the School of Literary, Visual & Performance Studies at Monash University. In 2001 If the Moon Smiled was shortlisted for the NSW Premier's Literary Awards - Best Novel and Community Relations categories. Chandani is also the author of the critically acclaimed Moth and Other Stories (1992).
