Book description
Tony Blair dominates the centre ground of British politics and is a model for social democratic parties around the world - Yet how did this come to pass and has Labour lost its soul? Like Clinton in the US, Blair stole the clothes from his opponents on the right, watered down his parties traditional left commitments and won a resounding electoral victory. Closely observed by an Australian expert on campaigning, The Centre is Mine! analyses the genesis of new Labour's political machine. Setting out to explain how this political transformation and electoral triumph were achieved, this book dissects the development of new Labour's political strategy and seeks to map out the triumph of the new politics of the centre and its implications for Australia. It places new Labour in its international context, specifically drawing parallels with recent political developments in both Australia and Clinton's United States. It will be of keen interest to all interested in the future of electoral politics.
