Book description
By writing this book, the author facilitates a better understanding of the changing structure and functions of the family and wider kin networks in India and inspires further research on this subject. The book attempts to provide readers with an overview of major theoretical paradigms, regarding the effect of contemporary social change on the extended and nuclear family in rural and urban India.
About the Author
Dr. Parimal Roy has been teaching at Gippsland Campus since 1975. Before coming to Gippsland, Parimal held university research and teaching positions in India, Western Australia, Canada and Malaysia. In 1983 he was a Visiting Research Fellow at Universities of Syracuse, State University of New York at Binghampton and Albany, Toronto and London. His major areas of research and teaching are Race and Ethnic Relations, Social Change, Urban Sociology, Community Studies, Family and Social Networks, Inter-ethnic Marriage and he has published many journal articles and monographs in these areas.
