Australian almanacs 1806-1930 : a bibliography Compiled by Ian Morrison, Maureen Perkins and Tracey Caulfield. Published by Quiddlers Press (2003) |
Book description
Almanacs are compilations of "useful information", typically published yearly. In the nineteenth century they included guides to everything from local shops to government regulations and postal and telegraph services. They are a valuable resource for family and local historians, as well as for broader social history. Many Australian almanacs also contained original fiction and poetry, and are a largely unexplored territory for literary studies.
This book provides a descriptive listing, with publishing histories and content summaries, of the more than 400 almanac titles published in Australia up to 1930.
