A black sheep follows the fortunes of Richard Delavel both as arebellious Oxford undergraduate in 1850s England and as middle-aged family manin 1880s Sydney. The story presents his life and loves, work and leisure,beliefs and hopes against a background of constraints and opportunities inBritain and Australia.

This book is the original version of Ada Cambridge's novel A marked manwhich was serialised in the Melbourne Age in 1888.

Dr. Elizabeth Morrison is an honorary research associate with the NationalCentre for Australian Studies at Monash University.
