Book description
This project forms stage 1 of a three-stage archaeological investigation of the former Ebenezer Mission, near Dimboola, in north-western Victoria. The project was managed jointly between Monash University, Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Cooperative, and the Wotjobaluk Traditional Land Council. It was funded by the Australian Research Council through a Discovery Grant made to Jane Lydon of the Centre for Australian Indigenous Studies at Monash University. As an Aboriginal historic site both Heritage Victoria and Aboriginal Affairs Victoria have responsibility for the site's administration, and it is owned by the National Trust. Between 9-21 November 2003, a team of twenty people excavated the Moravian Mission-house, aiming to investigate the structure of the house and its role within the mission layout, the lifestyle of Moravian missionaries, and whether past use was characterised by distinctively Moravian practices and spatial organisation.
