Book description
2005 is the World Year of Physics,
also dubbed the Einstein Year, celebrating 100 years since the publication
of Einstein's papers that changed the way we think about the Universe. How
fitting for us to launch Combustible Books in this auspicious year. And what
better book to launch it with than Philip Norton's new collection of poems,
a hybrid work where science meets art: Teach Yourself Atomic Physics.
Full of engaging pieces with titles like Dark Matter, Fusion, Relativity,
and The Absence of Matter, Norton's collection dares the reader to take part
in experiments of the imagination. In The Duality of Light, the reader is
told to "Turn on the light and watch her in the mirror/Turn off the light
and watch her in the mirror." Entropy begins by instructing the reader to
empty the contents of their life onto a table. These are entertaining,
accessible works imbued with Norton's quiet intelligence and biting wit.
Barnaldo Whelan's collage-based illustrations and striking design create a
retro yet contemporary looking volume that satisfies our commitment to
produce seductively beautiful books. [www.combustiblebooks.com/]
