Book description
Many people have contributed to this book. Hospitals,
Bush Nursing Centres and Historical Societies have worked throughout 2009 to
source information about the history of their hospital or hospitals and
those who have worked in them. They have researched their archival
material and have recorded the known details of the earliest doctors and
nurses in their communities, many reaching back into the 19th century.
Nurses and doctors recently retired or still working have also contributed.
This book is only the start of an exploration of the history of medicine in
Gippsland. While there are many narratives here, hundreds are yet to
be told and hopefully this book will ignite a greater interest in publishing
the rich history of the people who practised medicine in this region over
the last century.
