Book description
Pressure on schools to develop has never been greater, and this
series brings to the attention of teachers, heads, policy makers and
researchers the latest knowledge in the fields of school improvement and
school effectiveness. Teachers are provided with practical knowledge,
whilst the ideas and research contained in the series are also stimulating
academic debate and contributing to policy making.
This scholarly and ambitious book argues that schools must be prepared to
engage the community actively, while undertaking dramatic self-appraisal and
renewal. The book draws attention to the decisions that need to be
taken now, if the ideal of lifelong learning in an educative society is not
to be lost.
The School, the Community and Lifelong Learning is an invitation to
explore the challenges facing schools today. To anyone concerned about
the future role of schools in society it will prove an important book - not
just now, but over the years to come.
