First check Filter and
connection files for updated filter or connection files. Also review
the help files within the database.
Direct export
- Mark desired records
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen
- At Step 1, select Selected records on page
- At Step 2, select Full Record if available, otherwise select Authors, Titles, Source plus Abstract
- At Step 3, select Save to EndNote, RefMan
or Procite

- Endnote should launch automatically.
- Select a library and select Open. The references
should now be displayed in a separate window.
Import via filter file
- Mark desired records
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen
- At Step 1, select Selected records on page
- At Step 2, select Full Record if available, otherwise select Authors, Titles, Source plus Abstract
- At Step 3, select Save to plain text, then Save
- Records are automatically saved as a text file (.txt). Save the file to the desktop and give it a name as appropriate
- Open EndNote and select a library (File-Open)
- From the menu bar, select File-Import
- An Import box opens:
- Import data file: select Choose File and select
file from Step 6
- Import Option: pull down menu and select Other filters.
Locate the appropriate filter: ISI-CE
- Duplicates: select appropriate option from pull down menu
- Text Translation: leave option as No Translation
- Select Import
- Records should be imported into the library and displayed in a separate
window
Connecting from Endnote to ISI databases
This is generally not recommended in Web of Science as Cited
Reference Searching is not available as a search option.
- Select a database connection from the Online Search list on the left panel of the EndNote library, OR
- From Endnote toolbar select Tools-Online Search and select the appropriate connection file, ie Web of Science (TS)
- Perform search
- The references will automatically be transferred into the EndNote library. Delete any references that you don’t want to remain in the library
- Click on 'all references' to close the connection
Alerts from Web of science and Current contents connect
- Set up an email alert (you must register for an individual account)
- run a search
- select Search History at the top of the screen
- Click Save History / Create Alert. The last search line will become the alert
- complete information as required – the following options must
be selected
- tick the box Send Me E-mail Alerts
- alert type: select Full Record
- e-mail format: select ISI ResearchSoft
- select Save. You will receive emails containing
new records matching the search set.
- Open your email message and select File-Save As (or File-Export in Lotus Notes).
- Save email as a text file (*.txt) (or save as type ASCII Text in Lotus Notes)
- Import the file as outlined in Steps 7-11 in section 'Import via filter
file' above. Select filter ISI-CE as
the import filter
To delete an email alert
- Select My Saved Searches from the top of the screen
- Log in with your registration password
- Tick the box in the delete column next to appropriate search
- Select Delete
