Statistics, Census of Housing and Population

The Census is the only complete count of the Australian population. It provides the most accurate statistical information on topics such as birthplace, income, occupation, age, family structure, types of dwellings, average mortgage payments etc. The information is available at different geographic levels sometimes as detailed as collection districts of approximately 100 houses. Matheson Library has a complete collection of Australian census material.

Maps showing key social, demographic and economic characteristics of an areas' population. All atlases have a common core of set maps to enable comparisons between cities, as well as maps emphasising the unique attributes of a particular city. In the Matheson Library these are kept with the Australian Census material at the beginning of the Reference collection.
