Microforms

A microform is a microphotographic reproduction on film or paper of a manuscript, printed text or document. The Music and Multimedia Collection houses an extensive research level collection of microfilm, microfiche and microcard. The collection includes journals, newspapers, Monash University theses (Masters and PhD relating to Arts, Business and Economics, and Education), and educational resources.

Searching for microforms

  • Use the library catalogue to search for microforms.
  • You can also search for materials held on microfilm by consulting the printed microform indexes held in the collection.
  • If the library catalogue indicates that your item is held on open access, then you can find it yourself in the Music and Multimedia Collection area.
  • Some items held on open access require a key issued from the collection loans desk.
  • If the library catalogue indicates that your item is held in closed access, then it can only retrieved by a staff member. Advance notice is required, you will need to fill out a form that is available at the loans desk and the Matheson Library information desk. Closed access items will be available by the following working day.
