Door count rises across librariesAll eight Monash University libraries have experienced a significant increase in visitors for the start of the 2003 academic year. "The March door count was up an average of twenty-four per cent compared to last year at the same time," said university librarian, Cathrine Harboe-Ree. The greatest increase of fifty per cent was at Parkville campus' Pharmacy Library. Caulfield and Hargrave-Andrew libraries also experienced significant increases, up thirty-three per cent and thirty per cent respectively. "It is interesting to note that more students in the libraries usually means more loans, but not always," said Ms Harboe-Ree. Berwick library, which experienced a smaller door count increase of nineteen per cent, had the largest increase in numbers of loans, with nearly twenty-five per cent more items being borrowed than March 2002. Ms Harboe-Ree said the figures would be used to ascertain where resources needed to be increased to keep up with demand, and congratulated library staff for managing an exceptionally busy start to the year.
