Major refurbishment planned for Hargrave-Andrew Library

The Hargrave-Andrew Library on Clayton campus will be refurbished in 2004

A major refurbishment of the Hargrave-Andrew Library is planned for 2004 as the first in a series of building upgrades for all Monash University Library branches.

"The goal of the upgrades is to make the library buildings easier to navigate, more conducive to study and more reflective of the quality and status of our university and our collection," said university librarian, Cathrine Harboe-Ree.

"Library users have told us, through the recent customer satisfaction survey and through other means of feedback, that they want certain improvements and we are responding."

Ms Harboe-Ree said Hargrave-Andrew Library, as one of the oldest of the branches, would be the first to receive a "make-over".

"We are exploring ways to improve functionality and modernise the older parts of the building," she said.

"We are also very keen for the interior design of each library to reflect the community it serves so users can be comfortable in - and proud of - their library."

Planning for the refurbishment includes exploring the possibility of relocating the current library entrance and taking greater advantage of the space provided by the recent extension.

Work on the Hargrave-Andrew library is expected to commence as early as possible in 2004, and work will be scheduled to minimise disruption to services for library users.
