New resources for science, medicine and film now available

The library has purchased major new resources covering several subject areas, in both print and electronic formats, in the September – December period.

New printed resources include a number of science reference works, including:

New electronic resources, accessible via the catalogue, include:

  • American National Biography Online published by Oxford University Press provides profiles of more than 18,000 men and women from all walks of American life, from the well-known to the infamous to the obscure. It covers people from all eras who have influenced and shaped American history and culture. There is also a print version.
  • Film Index International is a major new information resource for entertainment, films and personalities produced in collaboration with the British Film Institute. With a scholarly, inclusive approach to all areas of film studies - from the very first silent movies, to art house classics or the latest blockbusters - Film Index International provides international coverage, indexing films from over 170 countries.
  • Transport - on Ovid consists of two component bibliographic databases produced by the world's leading transportation research organisations: The International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) produced by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development; and the Transportation Research Information Services database (TRIS) produced by the Transportation Research Board of the United States. Together, the databases feature research in transportation systems and their components: highway, traffic, transport, road safety, intermodal transport, transport economics, transport policy and social sciences of transportation.
  • Following the recent trial access the library now offers the BMJ (British Medical Journal) publishing collection, giving Monash staff and students online access to 24 medical titles.
  • Clinical Evidence is now available online. The Library currently has this in print, but there are only two issues a year. Online content is updated monthly.
