More music, more crime, more lives online

Monash staff and students now have access to a myriad of new online resources, including 75,000 songs, information on trends in crime and 50,000 illustrated biographies.

In the last quarter of 2004 the library spent $270,000 acquiring an immense number of new resources based on the information needs of the Monash community.

All new resources can be accessed from the library databases pages unless otherwise noted. http://lib.monash.edu.au/databases/

Naxos Music Library

This resource includes the complete Naxos , Marco Polo and Da Capo catalogues of over 75,000 tracks, including classical music, historical recordings, jazz, world, folk and Chinese music. Whilst listening, users can read notes on the works being played as well as biographical information on composers or artists in Naxos' extensive database.

Criminal Justice Abstracts

Indexes and abstracts international journals, books, reports, dissertations, and unpublished papers on criminology and related disciplines. Areas covered include trends, crime prevention and deterrence, juvenile delinquency, juvenile justice, police, courts, punishment, and sentencing.

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography

A new online edition of this standard work is now available via the catalogue and databases page. “An illustrated collection of 50,000 specially written biographies of the men and women who shaped all aspects of Britain 's past, from the fourth century BC to the year 2000.”

Joanna Briggs Nursing Institute database

This resource provides a collaborative approach to the evaluation of research and its integration into nursing practice. This web site also provides access to RAPid (Rapid Appraisal Protocol Internet Database), which is a resource for teaching evidence-based health care to university students.

Methods in Enzymology backfile 1955-1999

The library has recently licensed online access to all titles in this important reference series. Access to the series is through the catalogue.

Early English Books Online – new content

A new release sees the addition of more than 4,600 new items from the Thomason Tract collection of political tracts, broadsides and newspapers. When complete in early 2005, over 22,000 Thomason Tracts will be available in EEBO.

More Elsevier journal backfiles online

The latest collections added are to the Monash collection online are

  • Neuroscience
  • Pharmacology
  • Immunology & microbiology
  • The Lancet

and supplementary titles in Mathematics and Psychology.

Taylor & Francis journals online

The purchase of this collection gives online access to over 1000 journals published by the Taylor & Francis Group. These include imprints such as Routledge, Carfax, Frank Cass, Psychology Press, Swets & Zeitlinger, Dekker. All journals are now available via Metapress http://www.metapress.com except for the Dekker titles. These are currently accessible on the Dekker site http://www.dekker.com but will move to Metapress at the beginning of 2005.

Asian studies research resources on microfilm

Coverage of the following titles has been extended

  • Records of the U.S. Department of State relating to the internal affairs of Japan 1945-1949 (39 reels)
  • Records of the U.S. Department of State relating to the internal affairs of Korea (North and South); 1960-1963 (10 reels)
  • Missionary files: Methodist Church 1912-1949: China (104 reels)

A new title added is

  • U.S. Army Center of Military History : historical manuscripts collection: the Korean War (15 reels)
