Matheson Annexe extended

The Matheson Annexe has been extended to include the first floor of the undergraduate wing of the Sir Louis Matheson Library.

Annexe facilities now include an additional 60 seats, five computers and a mix of alternate seating and study tables.

The extra level will be zoned as a quiet study area to alleviate current problems of noise and food on the other two floors of the annexe.

Director of Client Services, Christine Cooze said the change was made because more users now routinely visit the annexe with 2004 figures showing an 11% increase over 2003.

"At any one time up until 11pm more than 250 people are in the annexe and an average of 100 people are still in the annexe at midnight," she said.

"Library complaints routinely mention overcrowding in the annexe together with associated issues of noise and lack of computers. We hope this move will improve the situation for users."

The Matheson Annexe provides extended hours access to library facilities. During semester the annexe is open Monday - Thursday 9pm - 12 midnight , Saturday and Sunday 10am - 1pm .

Pick up an hours card from the loans desk for a calendar of opening hours of the Matheson Library and annexe for 2005 or go to library hours.
