Welcome back to all returning students

Welcome back and best wishes from the library for another successful year at Monash. As we continually introduce new and improved services and resources, you will notice some changes aimed at enhancing your experience of the library and assisting you with your study and research programmes. Some of these changes include:

Catalogue is more user friendly

The catalogue has had a make-over. It has a new, modern look and improved functionality:

  • browse subject words via a keyword search
  • searching for keywords is easier using word truncation
  • "recently received" and "next expected" journal issues display more clearly at the top of the journals holdings.
  • use the Help feature to find out more about these and other new features.

MultiSearch makes searching easier

It is now possible to search up to 10 databases or ejournal collections simultaneously using MultiSearch.

Document delivery service simplified

Honours and postgraduate students needing loans from non-Monash University libraries can now request material held at other universities via the catalogue using a single form. For the steps involved, pick up a brochure at your branch or view the brochure online.

Photocopy and printing price review

Photocopy and printing prices have been reviewed, and some price adjustments have been made to ensure the library continues to offer a high level of service in this area. Please consult the Printing and Photocopying brochure in your branch for details.

Borrowing changes

All academic staff and those postgraduate students studying for higher degrees by research, who are recognised as such by the university, are now eligible to borrow up to 40 items concurrently. Parkville Library has increased the maximum borrowing limit for undergraduates to 15 items.

Branch library changes

Refurbishment of the Hargrave-Andrew Library on Clayton campus is complete. The library precinct cafeteria now has an attractive paved outside area.

The new Berwick Library and Learning Commons opens its doors at the beginning of the first semester. The environment has been designed to suit a range of learning styles including group and quiet study. Features include 79 new computers, a Self Loans checkout (where you can process your own loans), and roaming helpers assisting users during busy periods.

A two year refurbishment of the Sir Louis Matheson Library at Clayton campus will begin in 2006. Full services will continue to be offered and every effort will be made to keep inconvenience to users to a minimum. Further details on the project will be available soon.

For more information or assistance regarding any of these changes, go to the information desk in the library or speak to a librarian via online chat available through the library website
