ePress revisits Jackson’s Track |
||
| The fourth book to be published by the Monash University ePress, Jackson's Track Revisited, by author Carolyn Landon, was launched yesterday marking an exciting breakthrough for the ePress. Says Monash University ePress Manager, Michele Sabto at the book’s launch at Readings Bookshop in Lygon Street: “The publication of Jackson's Track Revisited is a coup for the ePress. The author's previous book (Jackson's Track, Penguin 1999) sold over 60,000 copies, which is quite extraordinary for Australian publishing. “Media coverage of the book is already looking promising, and the author has already been invited to a number of festivals to speak about her new book, including this year's Melbourne Writers' Festival, Warragul Writers' Festival and Baw Baw Writers' Festival. Eltham Bookshop is hosting a meet-the-author event for the book in September, in association with the Nillumbik Reconciliation Group.” This sequel explores the historical factors surrounding the story as related in the original book, leading to discussion of the Victorian Aborigines Welfare Board, the Victorian Aborigines Advancement League and the policy of assimilation that was so prevalent in mid-twentieth century Australia. While the ePress expects to sell many copies of the paperback version of the book (available as print-to-order via Sydney University Press), many university libraries have already taken up a subscription to the online version. The benefit of having the book available online is that all staff and students can access the content at any time. This is also appealing to secondary school teachers who may wish to use the book in the classroom. The Monash University ePress was launched in 2004 as a pioneering project in the publishing of scholarly material. 11 August 2006 current news : 2008 : 2007 : 2006 : 2005 : 2004 : 2003 : 2002 : pre-2002 Ask a question Phone +61 3 9905 5054 or use our enquiry services ask.monash for Monash students and staff | ask.monash for visitors, or online chat. |
