Planning for the library of the future |
||
| Monash University Library recently released its Strategic Plan 2008-2010 outlining the Library’s priorities and plans for the next few years. The Plan includes a revised mission statement which is, "Monash University Library advances scholarship by enabling the effective discovery and use of information for education and research". Information literacy and learning skills programs will contribute to advancing scholarship. These programs offer assistance to students through staff in each branch library. Learning support services include skills development in the areas of communication, effective study, essay writing and preparing for exams. The Learning Skills Unit established in July 2007, will expand and develop its activities in 2008 and will work closely with other staff providing support and training services. A major thrust of the Plan is to make the Library’s comprehensive collection of electronic resources easier to locate and use. This will be achieved by working towards implementing the recommendations of the Library’s resource discovery project. The 50th anniversary of the University in 2008 will be recognised by the Library in a number of ways, including a major exhibition. To establish a more strategic and effective approach to skills and career opportunities, a Library Professional Development Framework for staff is being developed. This will help library staff improve the skills they need to keep pace with a rapidly changing environment. The Library Strategic Plan was recently endorsed by the General Library Committee, a standing committee of the Academic Board. 13 December 2007 current news : 2008 : 2007 : 2006 : 2005 : 2004 : 2003 : 2002 : pre-2002 Ask a question Phone +61 3 9905 5054 or use our enquiry services ask.monash for Monash students and staff | ask.monash for visitors, or online chat. |
