Census data seminar for Gippsland

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) conducted a free Information session at Monash University Gippsland that demonstrated through the use of case studies how to make effective use of ABS data.

The session, hosted by the Gippsland Library, was held on Thursday 19th June between 9.30 and 11.30 am and included time for questions.

The ABS, Australia’s national statistical agency, has a wealth of information freely available to assist organisations in understanding what is happening in their region and to more effectively target their services. Census data provides a detailed source of socio-demographic data for small geographic areas.

The ABS Information Sessions covered, through the use of ‘live’ website demonstrations:

  • what is available from the 2006 Census of Population and Housing and how to access data for the areas you are interested in;
  • practical case studies with a Local Government focus on how to use 2006 Census data in your planning and decision-making;
  • who to ask for assistance.
