Gippsland Library hours extended for medical students

Gippsland Library will open until 8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays late in January and in February as part of a year long trial.

The extended hours have been introduced to cater for the intensive study program undertaken by graduate medical students at Gippsland.

A new postgraduate medical degree commenced operation at the campus in 2008 as part of an effort to educate more doctors for rural areas.

The medical students are on campus for a longer academic year than other students so the Gippsland Library opening hours for 2009 have been extended to align with the extended Medical semesters.

This will result in extra evening opening until 8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays for five weeks from Tuesday January 27. Once the regular semester commences on 2 March the Library will open until 8 pm on Monday to Thursday. The full opening hours can be checked online.

Statistics of usage will be kept to assist in evaluating success or otherwise of the trial, which will include extended opening hours during the June/July semester break and after the official exam period in November.

Library opening hours are reviewed annually to ensure that they continue to meet the requirements of library users.
