Self loans popular with students

Staff members and former students would recall the days when long queues would form at loans desks as students borrowed those vital books for that essay or exam.

The length of such queues has been reduced over recent years by the provision of electronic books, digitised articles and online renewals.

Now the queues have been dealt a further blow by the readiness of students to use self loan machines. Library users are keen to charge out their own books as often it means they will get away from the library more quickly.

CL Butchers Pharmacy Library has the highest figures in this area, with 77% of all loans this year to date being made through their self loans machine.

In a related development, at some branches any books on hold for a patron can be collected from the Reserve area by the patron themselves, who can then charge the book out if they wish, rather than waiting in a queue for service at the desk.

The self loans machine at your branch library is easy to use, so why not give it a try next time you are borrowing a book?
