An existing area within Building 901 (previously accommodating Facilities and Services offices and a tutorial room) was renovated to hold some 40 computers, including a training room (making 70 computers in total in the library and learning commons). At the same time the library was rearranged to more effectively separate areas for quiet and group work. The library entrance is now from the village green.

The floor plan is designed to align with the library's Facilities Master Plan, thus meeting the following objectives:

  • clearly delineated noise and quiet areas, often utilising book shelves as noise buffers
  • technology-rich areas that provide computers and printing and copying facilities in one area, close to staff assistance
  • a central 'information zone' where users can find help from staff or access self-help information such as brochures and an electronic noticeboard displaying important library and IT information
  • clear sight-lines to aid navigation.
