“Caulfield Library is too small for the campus. It's always full, very hard to find a place to study. Seats are located too closely to each other.”
“Law library is very drab and not a particularly enticing place to study. All the carrels are old and withered.”
“Very poor air circulation in the Matheson Library. It is very hot and stuffy even on cold days, and makes the library a very difficult place to study in.” |

We are improving the study environment
We endeavour to make improvements where we can to enhance the study environment in the libraries. Over the last two years, 25 new workstations with desktop power have been added at the Caulfield Library. At Matheson Library, we have added an extra 42 power points with plans to add more. The Matheson Annexe area which remains open later has gained 103 more seats beginning Semester 2. More desktop power will be installed at Hargrave-Andrew Library. The Law Library is continuing to review furniture and use of space. A new flexible learning and teaching environment will be available late this year at the Gippsland Library. Space planning continues with the aim of progressively refurbishing older areas within our libraries.

We have completed an environmental audit
We have recently completed an environmental audit of our eight libraries and will be implementing many of the recommendations (within the limits of our budget) to improve the performance and functionality of our buildings, light fittings and light management and better management of air flow.
"The library is constantly reviewing the usage of our space and balancing the demand for computers, quiet study, group study and lap top usage. We are lobbying for the refurbishment of the Caulfield and Matheson library and when the budget allows replacing old furniture."
