"More strict inspections for people who contribute to noise pollution, particularly rudely speaking on the phone in quiet study areas."
"There is no place that is actually quiet in ANY of the libraries. There needs to be QUIET areas with NO talking and this need to be reinforced by staff. The library is the only place I can write my thesis and it’s sometimes extremely difficult to concentrate.’"
"I think there should be harsher signs about how the library is a study area, NOT a gossip/social space." |
- We are constantly reviewing our signage
We will ensure that there is adequate signage clearly communicating that mobile phones are not to be used in quiet study areas. We will monitor these areas more closely, particularly during exam periods.
- We are improving our study spaces
We have been changing some of the furniture in quiet areas to individual workstations rather than lounge seating to reflect the study style. We also encourage students to explore a library’s floor plan to discover quiet study areas on different floors that they would not know about otherwise. Where space will allow we are adding more individual quiet study workstations with power points. The majority of level 4 at the Caulfield library has recently been refurbished.
"There has been a move over recent years to quiet rather than silent study. Whilst this suits most users some still expect to find absolute silent study which is difficult in our busy libraries. We are constantly reviewing our seating ratio and always trying to improve our facilities in order to meet the demands of quiet study, group study and space for the collection."
