Document delivery

The purpose of this service is to get the information you require for your Monash research, from wherever it is, to wherever you are. If eligible you can receive:

• photocopies from items held at a branch library on another campus**
• photocopies from non-Monash libraries or document suppliers
• loans from non-Monash libraries (InterLibrary Loan - ILL)

Loans of books and other items from Monash Library collections must be requested directly from the catalogue, see Loan requests and Holds

** Note: from May until November 2009, the library will trial supply of copies of items held at home campus

Turnaround times: most requests within Australia will be completed within 2 weeks but is subject to delivery times from external libraries

Eligibility for document delivery

• Monash staff
  • current academic staff
  • general staff with work related research needs
• Monash students
  • HDR (higher degree by thesis) students
  • OPG (graduate diploma, higher degree by coursework)
  • honours

Monash undergraduates, offshore students, alumni, special borrower card holders and members of the community are not eligible for this service. However you can contact Library External Client Services to request document delivery services (fees apply).

Staff and postgraduates of offshore campuses request document delivery via their home campus:

• Malaysia
• South Africa

Limits to the service

As fees for document delivery are charged by most suppliers, requests are:

• limited to Monash University related teaching, research, and/or learning purposes
• subject to copyright and licence conditions
• students must seek approval from their academic supervisor or relevant librarian from the faculty team to request overseas or fast track items

A fee paying service exists for items or patrons that are ineligible for document delivery

University of Melbourne - a special loan service

Eligible staff and students may use the catalogue to request books from University of Melbourne (Parkville libraries only). Items can only be collected from the Sir Louis Matheson Library loans desk (Clayton campus). See Melbourne-Monash intercampus loans for more detail.

Request theses

Most universities do not lend copies of their theses. Usually we will purchase a copy and put it in the Monash University Library collection. Digital copies of theses from ProQuest dissertations & theses can be obtained quickly. Read more about obtaining theses.
