Research collectionsThe Faculty of Education operates across three campuses - Clayton, Gippsland and Peninsula. Resources for education studies are distributed between these campuses, each reflecting the special needs of the programs run at each campus. The Sir Louis Matheson Library collects extensively in secondary education and adult vocational education and training. Special emphasis is placed on material relating to education in Australia, particularly government policy, economic and social aspects and history of education. Strong collections are available in the areas of special education, educational philosophy and international education. Gippsland Library collects in the area of childhood development, literacy, primary and secondary education, with an emphasis on educational administration and outdoor education. The library includes a substantial curriculum materials collection. Peninsula Library collects in the areas of early childhood and primary education with a focus on literacy, teaching techniques, childhood development and exceptionality. The library includes a substantial teaching materials collection. Other significant Monash collections or resourcesChild development and psychologyAdditional material in areas of child development, child psychology and educational psychology is located in the Hargrave-Andrew Library and in the Gippsland, Caulfield and Berwick libraries. Research material for computers in education can be found in the Hargrave-Andrew and Matheson libraries. Materials for child and adolescent psychiatry, mental disorders and psychotherapy are located in the Monash Medical Centre Library. Curriculum materialsGippsland and Peninsula libraries hold extensive collections of curriculum resources. These collections include realia, musical instruments, puzzles, puppets etc, kits, music CD's and cassettes, pictures and slides, texts, (including VCE resources), fiction and non fiction children's books. Curriculum materials at Clayton are held in the Education Library and Media Resources (LMR) located in the Education faculty. Melbourne Centre for Japanese Language Education Resource Centre is located in the Matheson Library. It holds a large range of teaching and reference materials in the vernacular to assist Japanese language teachers. Microform collectionsMostly held in the Music and Multimedia Collection, located in the Matheson library.
Rare Books CollectionWithin this collection are several smaller collections including: early 20th century textbooks used in Australian schools and the Lindsay Shaw collection of Australian juvenile fiction.
