Finding theses

Monash

The Library receives one copy of each doctoral and masters thesis accepted by Monash University, these are listed in the Library catalogue. Theses are housed in the site serving the department at which the student was enrolled. They are not available for loan, and at some sites only microfiche copies are available for consultation. Academic departments also hold a copy of all theses accepted by the department.

In the library catalogue use search and type in the word thesis plus a topic word (and also monash if you want Monash University theses).

Examples:

  • thesis science fiction (for theses about science fiction)
  • thesis Monash science fiction (for Monash theses about science fiction)

Doctoral candidates are now encouraged to submit theses electronically and these can be found in full-text via the Arrow repository.

Other Australian theses

Libraries Australia (Kinetica) includes bibliographic information for most Australian theses. There is a Theses checkbox to help narrow your search. Some early theses may not be in the database.

Union List of Higher Degree Theses in Australian University Libraries is a subject and author listing of higher degree theses held in Australian libraries. There is a volume for up to and including 1965 with supplements up to 1988. From 1989 you will need to check Libraries Australia.
