- Go to Ei Patents
- On the Engineering Village 2 search screen
- By default you can search US Patents and EP
Patents concurrently
- Perform your search
- On the search results page click on the Full-text icon
to view the full-text online patent (if available)
Searching via SciFinderScholar
Monash students and staff can access SciFinder Scholar via workstations HAL-WEB-5176
or HAL-WEB-5177, Hargrave-Andrew Library, Clayton Campus, and at Pharmacy Library,
Parkville.
- Perform your search
- From the search results page click on the Analyze / Refine button
- select Refine
- Document Type
- Patent
- click OK
OR
- select Analyze
- select Document Type
- select Analyze all documents
- select either Sort results alphabetically or Sort
results by frequency
- click OK
- select Patent
- Viewing search results
- Click on the microscope icon to view the full bibliographic record
including the summary and indexing terms
- Click on the manuscript icon to view the full text online patent (if
available)
- Country
codes for patents in SciFinder Scholar
Viewing
Sometimes users need to install a Tiff image viewer to view the images of the
online full text patents
- Go to interneTIFF
- Click FREE (left hand side)
- select one of the versions offered (eg InterneTIFF - Internet Explorer
Version)
Printing
Sometimes you may be able to print out the full original document
- Click Save Full Document
- You will be asked to Please enter the text that can be read in
the image below:
- After entering the text as given in the box provided, click Submit
- You will then be asked Do you want to open or save this file?,
select Open
- Click Print
Searching Australian patents
IP Australia is the government
agency responsible for granting rights in patents, trade marks and designs.
The site offers both Quick and Advanced search options.

Obtaining Australian Patents:
IP (Intellectual Property) Australia's State Offices in Australia capital cities
have full copies of patents in paper, microfiche or rollfilm format which
can be viewed without charge. Copies can also be purchased by contacting IP
Australia.
