Selected full text databases

It is important to note that all of the full text journals in the full text journal databases are listed in the catalogue with links to the full text, so it may be more appropriate to search in a more specialised subject database and then check the catalogue to see if a journal title is available in full text. The full text databases are mostly multidisciplinary with some journals relevant to sociology. These are the most useful:

  • ECO, Electronic collections online is a huge full text database with well over 100 full text titles relevant to sociology.
  • Oxford journals covers many Oxford journals in many subject areas including some of relevance to sociology.
  • Cambridge journals online includes some of relevance to sociology including some Asian studies journals. Not very useful for women's studies
  • Ingenta select provides full text access to journals covering all subject disciplines from scholarly, academic and business publishers.
  • Project Muse provides full text journal articles for around 50 John Hopkins University Press titles and over 60 quality journal titles from other scholarly publishers, some going back as far as 1995, in the fields of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, and many others.
